There’s a whole host of wildlife activities for all ages to discover at Waterside Festival. Take a look below and explore the fantastic offerings from River Thame Conservation Trust, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT).
Water, Wildlife and You
Come and join the River Thame Conservation Trust to peek under the surface of Aylesbury’s babbling brooks and discover the hidden world of life that lies beneath. Join us for a bit of pond dipping or take a look in our tank to glimpse some of the fascinating freshwater insects, nymphs and larvae that inhabit the underwater world. You can also try your hand at citizen science by using our mini lab to test water samples and reveal how good the water quality of Aylesbury’s freshwater habitats is for wildlife – feel free to bring your own water samples to test! And overall, enjoy the perfect chance to learn more about your local freshwater habitats, their wildlife and what we’re doing to protect them.
Nature trail/scavenger hunt
Join BBOWT and put your detective skills to the test as you discover the plants and animals that live in the Bear Brook area with our nature trail/scavenger hunt. There’s also a great chance to get creative with our exciting wildlife craft activity!
Wildlife on the waterways
Delight in the outdoors and make your way along the waterway towpath by foot, bike, or boat with Aylesbury Garden Town! Be sure to pop by the Aylesbury Garden Town stall to pick up fun maps and activities (provided by waterways.org.uk) highlighting what wildlife you could see when strolling by the beautiful canal-side.
